PIEP EYEING BUSINESS COOPERATION WITH KENYAN OIL AND GAS COMPANIES

Kenya - PT Pertamina Internasional Eksplorasi dan Produksi (PIEP), as a subsidiary of Subholding Upstream Pertamina, is looking for cooperation in oil and gas exploration and production in Africa. One of the initiatives is by engaging with the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK), where PIEP will have access to data and information on NOCK’s oil and gas field, for further tracking potential to collaborate in exploration activities in frontier areas or in concessions that have already been produced.

"There are several African oil and gas blocks that are targeted by PIEP, and there are several more promising blocks that would lead into joint development and joint operations," said CEO of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati while attending government visit in Kenya, Monday (21 /08).

Nicke added, “Pertamina's expansion steps in the Kenyan oil and gas industry were expected to become our footprint in East Africa. This collaboration is also expected to strengthen national energy security, by bringing oil and gas production to Indonesia for processing at Pertamina's refineries.”

"PIEP's operational working areas cover 12 countries across 4 continents. Among them are countries in Africa of PIEP global footprints. The potential for cooperation in upstream oil and gas exploration and production, would increase PIEP advancement in field development to achieve increased production, as part of national energy security efforts. In 2022 the contribution of PIEP's production performance for oil is 29% and gas is 15% of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding production,” added Jaffee A. Suardin as President Director of PIEP.

NOCK Chief Executive Officer Gideon Leparan Ole Morintat expressed his appreciation for Pertamina Group visit. Especially with the support from the Government of Kenya and the Government of Indonesia, in G-to-G (government to government) bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas, geothermal and several other industries.

This collaboration, he explained, was NOCK's effort to support the Kenyan Government's program of economic transformation. Every Kenyan company contributes to increasing foreign income, employment, and increasing national income. "We welcome the exploration of NOCK and Pertamina, a company that is in the Top 200 Fortune Global Companies," said Gideon.

PIEP is conducting this business engagement while Indonesian President Jokowi's first visit to Africa on 20-24 August 2023. Pertamina, which also participated in President Joko Widodo’s visit to Kenya, opening many opportunities to work together, especially in the upstream, midstream, downstream and geothermal sectors.
