STRATEGIC COOPERATION IN ENERGY SECTOR BETWEEN PERTAMINA AND TANZANIA PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION

Daressalaam - PT Pertamina Internasional Eksplorasi dan Produksi (PIEP), as a subsidiary of Subholding Upstream Pertamina, is conducting a collaboration in oil and gas exploration and production in Africa, in support to its holding company initiatives globally. On Tuesday, 22/08, a strategic cooperation in the energy sector between PT Pertamina (Persero) and Tanzania Petroleum Development Cooperation (TPDC) is formed, as a milestone to enhance long-historical ties between Indonesia dan Tanzania - considering TPDC and Pertamina are state-owned-enterprises (SOE) wholly owned by each Government.   

Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed today by Pertamina dan TPDC, both SOEs agreed to cooperate in the upstream and downstream sectors in the form of:

1. Exploring potential areas of mutual benefit for investments in Tanzania, covering:

- upstream sector;

- downstream investment opportunities in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and Mini LNG supply; and

- any other as may be agreed by Pertamina and TPDC.

2. Sharing of knowledge and experience between the two companies.

3. Capacity building in areas of hydrocarbon exploration and the entire petroleum value chain for 100 employees of TPDC to receive training or education in Indonesia.

The capacity building program as mentioned above is intended to equip TPDC with new skill sets which are needed by a world-class energy company. The upskilling program will be conducted through various courses including a master’s degree program in hydrocarbon sector. To accelerate the implementation process upon return to Tanzania, the participants will also get real life experiences through on-the-job training in Pertamina’s various business streams.

Meanwhile Nicke Widyawati, President Director of Pertamina said, “the MoU is prepared with fundamental spirit of friendship. With this value in our minds, I believe when we enter a commercial cooperation in the future, it will sustain bringing positive values to our respective countries.”

With the opportunity to collaborate in gas exploration and production's upstream oil, it can increase PIEP's expansion on field development to achieve the production's growth as part of national security energy. In 2022, PIEP's contribution to Pertamina's Subholding upstream production are 29% on oil and 15% on gas" added Jaffee A. Suardin as  as President Director of PIEP.
