PERTAMINA AND TANZANIA PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (TPDC) ESTABLISH STRATEGIC COOPERATION IN HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

Bandung - PT Pertamina (Persero) has appointed PT Internasional Eksplorasi dan Produksi (PIEP) to conduct Pre Capacity Building and Capacity Building for Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) workers in collaboration with Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) and Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (PDSI).

In this Pre Capacity Building activity, five workers from Tanzania received induction for upskilling human resource capacities, which will be conducted starting from next week (mid-January) until April, along with an introduction to Indonesian culture.

The Capacity Building program is specifically designed for TPDC workers to acquire new skill sets, particularly in the fields of exploration and hydrocarbons, to transform into a world-class energy company.

The Pre Capacity Building activity was inaugurated by PIEP's CEO, Jaffee A. Suardin, together with PDSI's Director of Operations, Fata Yunus, TPDC's Exploration Director Kenneth M. Mutaonga, as well as witnessed by the Director of Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Dewi J. Meidiwaty, and the Ambassador of Tanzania to Indonesia, Macocha M. Tembele.

Jaffee stated, "The agenda of Pre Capacity Building and Capacity Building is prepared with the fundamental spirit of friendship and bilateral cooperation between the two countries. With these values, we believe that if the companies enter into commercial cooperation in the future, it will be sustainable and provide positive added value for both countries."

Meanwhile, TPDC's Exploration Director, who accompanied the participants of the first batch, expressed his appreciation for the activity, stating, "We appreciate this activity, where Pertamina has welcomed us and prepared this Capacity Building agenda. I am confident that Pertamina, as such a large organization, serves as an aspiration for TPDC. Capacity Building is a good start to realize the MoU between Pertamina and TPDC."

The Director of Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also affirmed the built cooperation. She conveyed that this positive collaboration is an important synergy-building between two countries with significant potentials in the energy sector, which starts with knowledge transfer for upskilling human resources.

Together with the Ambassador of Tanzania to Indonesia, Macocha Tembele, they conveyed that this year marks the 60th anniversary of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Tanzania, which began in 1964.

These five participants, as the first batch of the upskilling program, will be followed by a total of 100 participants who will come to Indonesia in several batches.

The learning process will be conducted using various methods including classroom and mentoring sessions. To enhance the implementation process before TPDC workers return to Tanzania, participants will gain direct experience through on-the-job training programs at Pertamina through several business units in the PHR Working Area and at the Indonesia Drilling Training Center of PDSI.

The Capacity Building agenda will last for three months. This activity is an effort to support the global initiatives conducted by Pertamina and TPDC, and it is a follow-up to the signing of the MoU on August 22, 2023, regarding strategic cooperation in upstream and downstream oil and gas sectors. Besides capacity building for exploration and hydrocarbon, the MoU also covers cooperation in exploring areas with potential and beneficial for investment in Tanzania, including: upstream opportunities, investment opportunities in downstream oil and gas sectors, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and supply to Mini Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), as well as other areas agreed upon between Pertamina and TPDC.

"By facilitating this cooperation, we aim to promote sustainable practices, technological advancements, and skill developments to drive the energy industries of Indonesia and Tanzania forward. PIEP believes that its global footprints in Africa can play a significant role in supporting our mission to develop integrated oil and other energy potentials overseas based on clear commercial principles to support national energy resilience," concluded Jaffee.
